April 13, 2024 Seminar

Nipaipo Kata

The seminar will cover the basic pattern, movements and bunkai (analysis of applications) of Nipaipo Kata. This kata was created by Mabuni, Kenwa, the founder of Shito-Ryu Karate-Do. He created it based on the White Crane fighting methods that he learned from Go Kenki (Wu Xianghui) and others in Okinawa. Mabuni, Kenwa did not teach this kata publically, but passed it on to his son, Mabuni, Kenzo (the second headmaster of Shito-Ryu).

The three head instructors who will be presenting this seminar were direct students of Mabuni, Kenzo. Those instructors are Dean Gordon (Utica, NY), Gary McGuinness (Groton, Mass) and Dudley Moon (Albany, NY). All three instructors have neen licensed teachers (shihan) in Seito Shito-Ryu Karate-Do since 1994 and hold Eighth degree black belts (Hachidan) and Master Teacher (Hanshi) certificates. Their goal is to pass on the teachings of Seito (main-line) Shito-Ryu Karate that Mabuni, Kenzo Soke Sensei passed on to them.
